Bedbugs Cimex lectularius

Bedbugs (Cimex lectularius) are a resurgent insect in Europe

Bedbugs ( Cimex lectularius) are a resurgent insect in Europe but also in many other countries. Involved stopping the use of systemic insecticides. If this insect does not transmit diseases, it causes social phobias and allergic symptoms after bites in the people concerned. The bug stings its host only if it is motionless. The upsurge of this insect is strong in France these last years since if we could count about 400 000 infested sites in 2015, it is about 600 000 sites which are infested in a sustainable way at the moment. Eggs (unaffected by insecticide treatments) are the real form of resistance of this insect that is transported in our daily journeys. The 2 aspects that interest this insect to date are the appearance of genetic resistance to insecticides making control even more complicated, and also the study of the microbiota of this insect to identify future biocontrol routes. By developing various bedbug colonies (different origins) in the laboratory, this will enable us to understand the selection of insecticide resistance genes. The study of the interaction between the bug and its microbiota should allow us to qualify this interaction and understand how to destabilize it and thus constitute serious tracks of biocontrol approaches needed today to be effective in the control of this insect. while reducing the environmental footprint of control products.
